Frequently Asked Questions

01

Where do we get the boat from in Mallaig?

When you arrive in Mallaig drive straight over the mini-roundabout, pass a few shops on your right and follow the road round to the right. Drive straight ahead until you can drive no further and you will see a metal hand rail and metal steps - these are the 'Knoydart steps' and is where your boat will be leaving from.

02

Where can we park in Mallaig?

As you drive into Mallaig you will see a large car park on the left hand side just before the Community Centre and Police Station. Drive to the boat, unload your luggage then bring the car back to this car park.If the car park is full there is alternative parking at East Bay along the harbour front.

03

Can we bring our car over to Knoydart?

The Highland Council (Small Isles & Knoydart Prohibition of Vehicles) Order 2003 applies restrictions which only allow residents and genuine contractors permission to take vehicles over to Knoydart. This helps reduce wear and tear on a vulnerable stretch of road. In order to bring a vehicle over you are required to apply for a permit from the Highland Council.

04

How long does the boat take and how much is it?

Western Isles Cruises operate our ferry service and the journey takes between 30 and 45 minutes from Mallaig to Inverie. Visit their website for more information and to book your tickets.

05

What do we do when we get off the boat?

We will be down the pier at Inverie to meet you and transport you and your luggage to the accommodation (please note that whilst our Covid-19 protocols are in place we are only able to transport luggage - guests will have to walk to the property). Prior to arrival, we will arrange one pick up per property between 3 - 6:30pm and one for the morning of departure between 7:30 - 10:30am.

06

Does the house have a washing machine?

Unfortunately none of our houses have a washing machine but if you have wee ones and are struggling to make the clothes last for your stay just let us know and we can easily put a washing through for you in our laundry.

07

Can we buy all our food on Knoydart?

You are better bringing the bulk of your shopping with you. Free range eggs are available on the Estate from our own chickens, and we have a small supply of our own venison available as well. The community shop in the village offers basic food supplies as well as a wide range of local crafts and gifts and an off-license.

08

Can we bring our dog - he's very well behaved!

All our properties are dog-free.We only have four hours in between guests leaving and the next arriving and it is not enough time to properly clean a large house that has had a dog in it.

09

What should we bring with us?

Food, drink and clothes are basically what you will need. We supply all linens and towels as well as basic house products including toilet roll, kitchen roll, bin bags, dishwasher tablets, firelighters, matches, dishcloths, ea towels, and all your firewood.
