8/25/2004 News Update

Another month passed since the last news update, how time flies.

Our preparations are nearly complete for the oncoming Stalking Season. The Blacksmith (Robin Pape) was over trimming the ponies’ feet & giving Bracken (The young Gelding), his first set of shoes. He stood remarkably well, Robin was very impressed, I was rather relieved! Thanks to Lara for helping with the handling of him this year.

The Knoydart Games was a great success again & the weather turned out to be fantastic, as you can see by the smiles on the faces of the 3 beauties in the sunglasses. The drinks in their hands were purely for the camera & non alcoholic?? If you believe that, then you obviously have never been to the games. Once again we had a great turnout from Mallaig, so we thought we had better let them win the “Tug O’ War” again!!!
All the usual events were there, Iain with his Bungee, Tim with his balls & Coco-nuts?? Mark with Whack The Rat, Robert & Louise on the Burger Stall etc. etc.
Thanks must also go to Ian Robertson for his Marquee & for keeping the games running smoothly as always.
The Ceilidh was a beauty and thanks to the band, Gabe, Colm, Angus, Euan, Tam & Hamish. (The Goat Island Ceilidh Band)

The pier project is well under way, the dredging should be over soon & the villagers have the sound of a Pile-Driver to look forward to for a few weeks.
If you are coming to Knoydart soon ie: September, then be aware that around the main village area, there will be some disturbance.
You’ll hear very little at Kilchoan compared to the rest, so don’t be put off from an impending visit.
I’ll endeavour to get some pictures for my next news of the Pier project.

The local boats have been doing well with visitors, taking them to see Whales. A variety has been seen for example, Minky’s, Hump-Back, Killer & Fin Whale have all been sighted. Thank goodness we have a resident marine biologist to explain who was who!

I had the good fortune to see the Hump-Back & the Minky Whales but not the others. We did have a magic time with a “Pod” of Dolphins on our way to look for the Whales?? (Photos Attached)
Ha ha London girls!

All in all it’s been a great month, plenty of visitors, weather not too bad but the MIDGES are terrible! Be prepared!!

Hope this finds everyone in great health, visit us soon.
Drew, Jacqui & All at Kilchoan.
