Hello From Kilchoan

Our new pier is at last starting to show above the water-line. The leg which runs from the shore, out towards the South West, now has blocks appearing & work seems to moving on well. The old slipway in the village is generally progressing & the large Spring tides at present have helped this move forward immensely.

We’ve celebrated Frank form (Tarbert Bay)’s 80th birthday on the 25th of July. This was celebrated by a fast Rib ride to Oronsay Hotel on Skye for a boozy lunch, then an overnight at the Glenelg Inn. The meal was fantastic, the music & dancing great fun but where did the transvestites come from?? Jacqui’s Big 40 was celebrated in Tarbert Church on the 29th of July. A massive Ceilidh ensued, with the help of many friends & the Gary Innes Band it was a lovely surprise for Jacqui.

We’ve experienced both the Knoydart & Tarbert Games, both of which were successful. Knoydarts’ attendance was restricted & somewhat curtailed due to the presence of the Marine Coastguard Agency, who was limiting numbers on the visiting Mallaig fishing boats.
Personally I think the whole health & safety thing is going over the top.
We still had a great weather day and the music for the evening Ceilidh was provided by the Squashy Bag band.

Frank made his debut on BBC 2’s coast programme and since the viewing, he keeps saying that he’s been inundated by autograph hunters & the Paparazzi !! (My Bum)

Mallaig music festival is on the weekend of the 26th August, headlined by John Martin & loads of other great bands.

Visitors to Kilchoan & Knoydart in general are flowing in by the boatload.
The stalking season is now well underway & I recommend all walkers to notify all estates or landowners of their intended routes.
One Mountain Rescue has been carried out by the local Glenelg M.R.T.
A lady whom was part of a Wilderness Scotland walking party, unfortunately broke her leg on the south-side of Roinn na Beinne. She was extracted by Lifeboat to Mallaig, then onto the Belford in Fortwilliam.

That’s the “Craic” for now, visit soon. Drew & Jacqui.
