23/11/2005 News Update
Hello From Kilchoan

The Stag shooting season has come & gone and what a wet season it was. We were begining to think that we'd be better taking water-wings to the hill, to try to help us getting across some of the "burns".(Stream or brook to our English friends)

I was lucky enough to have a few excellent days of weather when our owner was with us. I've included a picture we took of a Stag in full Rut holding hinds, on such a beautiful day. He was warning off another Stag who was quite close at the time, I am sure you'll get the "jist O' things"?
The old slipway which is beside our existing pier has all but been refurbished. Chick & Koa have done a sterling job on it & I'm sure the champagne will get cracked on it soon! Well done lads.
The Old Forge is now on winter hours, it is open on boat days but Tuesdays & Thursdays it doesn't open until 5pm. (Be warned)

Storms It was back to gale force winds & sometimes Hurricane winds in November, along with the continual "wee" droppy O' rain??
On Fri: 11th Nov, It was a screamer! Unfortunately 2 of our local boats hit the shore in the gale.
Bob-The-Boatmans' (Knoydart) broke loose off of her mooring around 6.30-7.00pm. She unluckily smashed onto the corner of the pier before beaching in front of the Foundation Office. A large band of locals managed to secure her from various points. Thanks goes to all of them from Bob.
The Old Forge R.I.B. was next to go at around 9.30pm, luckily it was spotted immediately & was secured onto a trailer within a short period of time.
Included a picture of the tide coming over our pier.

K.A.P. Knoydart Arts Promotions, launched on Sat: 12th of Nov. This is a locally run group, put together to bring Music, Song, Dance,Theatre, Gaelic to remote communities such as ours. The first night was a Ceilidh by members of SessionA9 ie:Charlie McKerran(Capercaillie) Duncan Chisolm (Wolfstone) Adam Sutherland (Croft No:5 & Various) Ian Copeland (Peatbog Fairies) & what a night it was!!! The band members enlightened the Knoydart locals with a lovely sit-down concert, which lasted over an hour before there was a break for Stovies. A marvellous Ceilidh then ensued until the latter part of AM:?

If you are planning a trip to Knoydart in the near future, take in www.knoydartarts.com & you might be lucky to link in at the same time as another event or Ceilidh.

Kilchoan Farmhouse will not be available for bookings as per 1st July 2006 but don't worry as Kilchoan Estate's newly refurbished "Grieves Cottage" (Sleeping 8) will be up & running by then.
