News Update

Hello All & Here’s a little summer News Update.

As you can see by the date, we are well into our summer influx of tourists. Most of the Knoydart Business’s are reporting a good turnover of trade in general but the last couple of weeks have been slow.
Ian at (The Old Forge) is still avidly pronouncing that it’s a hard old trade to be in and make living out of but with “tongue in cheek” I am sure he’ll get by.

Last weekend in Mallaig, hosted the Fishermans’ Mission Charity Day. A great turnout of visitors & locals were entertained by a vast array of side shows & events. It was also great to still have decent weather in this part of the West Coast, when everywhere else seemed to be experiencing rain.
The next big event in the Knoydart calendar is the Knoydart Games which will as usual be held on the 1st Sat: in August. This is a must for any people who would like to visit & have a really enjoyable weekend.
This year will be a repeat of last year’s set-up, with all events being contained in the Inverie village vicinity. A new marquee donated for the day by Ian & Jackie (The Old Forge) will be erected on the grass on the sea front & all races, stalls etc will be in the same area. A new route for the hill race will be in place too and hopefully in part will be visible to the audience within the village.

Knoydarts’ new Bunkhouse Warden (Isobell Prickett) is holding open house for visitors & locals alike this weekend Sun (19th). Tea, cakes & chat plus a tour if requested, will be provided for free.
The new toilet at the Pier-Head has now been commissioned into use after a two & a half year build. There have bee odd teething problems with the lighting, plus we are still waiting for a safety line to be installed on the roof. This is a requirement from the HSE so that grass cutting on the roof can begin! We’ll soon need a High-Viz Vest, A Safety Certificate & a Hard Hat just to come out of the house in the morning.

Bob Wright has finished a new road build for Knoydart Forest Trust. The road lies east behind the village and has been put in place for the second stage of timber extraction which should take place in 4 years time.

Ms Sam Firth is commissioning & producing Knoydart’s second small movie in recent months, after the winning success of Munchatreeaforest.
I gather that this movie will be along the lines of a Monty Python version of the Community Buy-out of the old Knoydart Estate. We look forward to the previews I’m sure? Casting begins this weekend.

This now ends my endless drivel & I hope your visit our site keeps you up to date with the real happenings on the peninsula. Come & stay with us soon.
