Kilchoan
estate was formerly part of Knoydart Estate and has been with
the same family since it was bought around 20 years ago.
What can we offer you ? Warm, comfortable accommodation on Knoydart penisula just far
enough away from the village of Inverie for complete privacy, spectacular
views from your windows of Glen Meadall and Glen Dubh-Locahain,
if you are staying in the Fank you can look onto Inverie Bay and
out to Skye and Rhum.
The Red Deer stags come down to Kilchoan to winter and you can
watch them being fed along with the highland cows and Garron ponies.
If you like to fish a 5 minute walk and you are at the Sea Pool
on Inverie river, you can fish right up the river to Loch Dubh-Lochain
where we have a pioneer boat to fish the loch. We can also organise
a stalking week with your accommodation in Kilchoan Farmhouse.
Our season for stalking is between September and mid February.

If you would like to come to Kilchoan Estate whether it is to
fish, stalk, walk, mountain bike or just chill out and relax in
front of a wood burning stove, we will do our best to ensure you
have a thoroughly enjoyable stay with us.

Extra ...
“ From January Grieves Cottage can be booked through this website again either by online enquiry-see accommodation page-or by telephone.”
I’m really not very good at updating this-with no excuse other than
I obviously work too hard!
Christmas was nice and peaceful as usual with lots of family members coming home for the holidays. New Year came and went and once again we all survived, surprised there were no broken limbs though as we had inches of ice on top of the already hard packed snow-which I know may look beautiful but is a pain to walk on. Myself and friend Liz slid (on foot) into a pot hole and would have been there till morning if Andy from Doune hadn’t appeared on his first footin’ rounds. Not sure what he thought as he came upon us – laughing hysterically on all fours trying to claw our way out of a 3” hole in the road. Roll on summer.
The Goss
Beginning of January saw Calum Wilson (a.k.a. The Hoff) leaving Knoydart with his mountain bike and heading for New Zealand. He’s away to work, play and build more mountain bike tracks. Calum has been working with Knoydart Forest Trust building a 2000m red grade track which is due for completion in the Spring. He could often be found at all hours in the night in his digger with head phones and ipod singing his little heart out-bless him.
Cara and the twins are away to America for a well deserved break. Jim and Clair are away down south to return as Mr and Mrs Manthorpe. Toby and his workers have a busy time coming up working with Knoydart Foundation building 3 new houses. These are ‘rural homes for rent’ which will provide affordable housing in and around Inverie. On top of that they also have Ian and Jackie Robertsons new house which will be starting very soon. See Old Forge website for details on their new venture. Next social event on the Inverie calendar is our Burns Supper on 23rd January which always finds Ian Wilson searching out unsuspecting newcomers for speeches-and anyone ‘in the know’ desperately trying to avoid him-good luck Ian!
Estate news
Tigh-na-Dobhran – our latest build is coming along nicely. Another week should see the inside painting and oiling complete thanks to John Murdo and Megan, Meegan, Meghan? Thanks also to Chic for working in between Christmas and New Year hanging all the doors. This will be available for rent at the end of April.
Stalking season went well for Iain and John with another couple of days at the hinds towards end of January and that will be it over with once again. Communications between hill walker and stalkers went very well this year with, I think only one day where they met some very bright, loud and jolly walkers who managed to clear the whole hill. Sods law and all that as it happened to be when they were stalking with the boss! Thanks to everyone who did contact us for information on where (or where not) to go.
I think that’s about it-anything that can be public knowledge anyway, although I did hear John the Ghillie has taken up photography!.................
